How is it calculated?
We calculate the Moon's sidereal position with an astronomy engine and the Lahiri ayanamsa, find each person's rashi and nakshatra, then apply the standard ashtakoot tables. Birth details are processed in your browser and aren't sent to our servers.
What score is considered good?
Traditionally, 18 or more out of 36 is acceptable, 25 or more is very good, and 32 or more is excellent.
Why does another website show a different score?
Traditions differ slightly on some kootas, mainly Vashya and Gana, and a small difference in birth time can change the nakshatra. Most differences are small.
Does a low score mean we shouldn't marry?
No. Gun milan is a traditional practice, not a prediction. There are also traditional exceptions to doshas that this calculator doesn't assess, so please speak to a qualified astrologer about any concern.
What if I don't know the exact birth time?
An approximate time can still work, because the Moon moves slowly, but the result may change if it was close to changing nakshatra. Mangal dosha from the lagna needs an accurate time.
